Traces of Place

Wax, Plaster & Natural Material Surfaces

My connection to plaster and mineral materials is personal and foundational. I come from a family of plasterers, which gave me an intuitive understanding of surface, structure, and how materials behave over time. That background evolved into professional experience with decorative wall finishes—working hands-on with lime plasters, natural pigments, and earth-derived textures.

In this project, I continue that lineage by integrating plaster, stone, sand, and found natural elements into contemporary abstract compositions. These choices are both practical and conceptual: the physical qualities of these materials allow me to build depth, tension, and variation through cycles of application, carving, and refinement. At the same time, the materials themselves carry history—holding traces of the environments they come from and the labor involved in shaping them.

By working with materials rooted in the built world and the natural world, I aim to create surfaces that feel familiar yet new—places where memory, observation, and tactile experience come together in a visually grounded way.
